It's me again online...

...with some interesting news that made my day right this "morning" (it was around 12:00). Ever heared of that Phone displayed on right? NO, it is not an stupid iPhone...even if it may have startet as a copy of that super-hyped-way-to-expensive Apple handset. This is the Meizu MiniOne! The development of Specs through the last few month was not always postive in my mind but the specs outed yesterday on Engadget Mobile are awesome! Everything is as a new cellphone for me should be: Large display (3.3-inch) showing an ultra-large 720 x 480 pixel-resplution (of course featuring a touchscreen) and running the fastet PocketPC CPU that is known to me right now (and not only for experimental purpose or so) at enormous 667MHz. At least it offers between 4 and 16 GB of onboard Storage!!! That is faster, brighter, larger than my cute XDA mini as well as the most PocketPCs on the market.

But between the announcement of late January this jear and the offitial unoffical news from yesterday a lot have changed. The design (still looks like an iPhone-clone...) and the most of all the funktionality. Back five months ago it was said to be a GSM handset (what means no 3G data (UMTS) with resulting no 386kBit/s data connections) followed by the announcement of beeing only a touchscreen-enabled multimedia player with Windows Mobile OS (others would call this a typical PocketPC). The most resent information do say that the MiniOne (or: M8?) sports even HSDPA what enables you do get ofer-the-air downloads up to nearly 7,2MBit/s. By getting real it would be one of the yet-not-so-many 3.5G cellphones on the market. Needless to say that this is way more than apples good-looking-bad-specs-handset with offering not even UMTS (at least in the US version....we'll have to wait vor an possible Updated EU version that is maybe featuring UMTS)

Just to be fair I hve to admit that there are at least two negative facts of the MiniOne: possibly (like the iPhone) no removeable battery and (like the iPhone as well) only one button. What seems to be innovative on the first view seems to be realy bad for me. Using my current device I need every single one of the four hardware hotkeys for the daily use. But lets wait and see what software solutions can be found for that...and allways remember the huge display.

One statement on pricing: The iPhone is to be sold for nearly 500/600 US bucks for the 4/8 GB version with a 2-jear contract available only at one provider - AT&T. The MiniOne is said to be sold for something between 300 and 500 bucks without contract and depending on the storage of your choice. That gets me back to the sources that said (a few month ago) Apple is earning 50% of the iPhone price...or production cost are only 50% of selling price. So it cuold be real. Meizu is said to sell its miniOne in Europe as well but no words on actual pricing (the prices above are not that new...) or realistic release dates.

This is the ultimate killerphone that is (nearly) on the market. No Nokia N95 can (in my mind) take the competition to that nice-looking techlogogical beast! It seems that it happened by the way that Meizu created the best-equiped PocketPC on the marked for maybe the next few years...And even if I've not mentioned WLAN, 3MPx Camera or Bluetooth it does not mean that the MiniOne does not offer that as well ;-)
